The facts

Tongin Market was originally a local market for Japanese residents during the Japanese colonial period, first opened in June 1941. After the Korean war, a lot of food stores and shops gathered around this area which became the Tongin Market nowadays.

It is composed of 75 banchan (Korean side dish) stores and little restaurants and it's located nearby Gyeongbokgung palace.

The most famous one is the Gireum Tteokbokki (Fried rice cake) which has been serving white and spicy rice cakes for more than 60 years. You can taste this type of rice cake only here in Tongin Market.

Another fun part is the "Dosirak Cafe" where you buy Traditional Korean coins to purchase portions of banchan (Korean side dish) and street food. When you buy the coins (a set is 10 coins and one coin is worth 500won), you will get the coins and a black plastic plate. After filling your plate with yummy foods, you can go to the Dosirak Cafe, located in the middle of Tongin Market, to enjoy your foods at the tables. It's a good way to try various Korean foods at a great price. Dosirak Cafe opens 11:00am-4:00pm except every Monday.

A very good place for people who love korean foods! This place is quite small, but trust me, it is so possible to spend lot of times and money in such a small place. So much fun! Try oil tteokboki, and gochujang tteokboki, a kind of tteokboki that you can not find just anywhere!

They also been so smart for the 'dosirak' concept! Makes people want to eat more and more!
