The facts

"The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art" (MMCA), has opened up a new branch in 2013 in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, where former site of Defense Security Command was located.

Equipped with multiple facilities including a reference center, project gallery theater and multipurpose hall, etc., MMCA Seoul focuses on introducing global contemporary art.

The first floor of the office building is MMCA ART ZONE, and the second floor a restaurant. Cafeteria is located next to the first floor lobby, next to the museum yard. A food court is located on the first floor of the education building. Digital Book Cafe is next to the Library yard along Bukcon-gil.

The museum’s four branches, including Gwacheon, Deoksugung, Seoul, and Cheongju (expected to open in 2015), each in its own way, will continue to carry out MMCA’s commitment to the art and culture of Korea by enriching the first-hand cultural experience of the viewing public.

I discovered this place on the way to Samcheong-dong, after visiting Gyeongbokgung, and it was a pleasant stay. The museum itself holds decent exhibit and the green space outside is serene. It's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in contemporary art and appreciate architecture.
